I visit San Pedro 2 or 3 times/year and HUGELY prefer the route to Pana with a boat than the road route which is longer and ends on a long, very steep, curvy road heading down toward the lake with ongoing construction - delays in July were up to 2 hours. All of those shuttles stop in Antigua to drop off and pick up passengers so can take as long as 5 hours, sadly - a direct GC Pana shuttle takes 2.5-3.5 hours depending on traffic. The share shuttles from GC to Panajachel that would get you to Pana in time to boat across (more on that in a moment) leave around 6am and 11am there's often a later one that would arrive in Pana well after dark. Consider Adrenalina and Atitrans for share shuttles.Most of the transport agencies don't offer share shuttles from Guatemala City to San Pedro La Laguna by road and there might only be one left that offers Antigua to San Pedro. Īnother option is to head to Antigua on a share shuttle from the airport for a night, then on a morning shuttle the next day.
Pablo Ajcac is based in San Pedro, also great, though with limited English. I don't know if they would do the route direct to San Pedro, though. My favorite private driver, Alfredo Garcia, is bilingual, personable, prompt, and safe, and has nice vehicles: daughter Steph and her husband Mario (wonderful people and fully bilingual) have started a sister agency that’s also receiving great reviews. Many drivers don't do the GC to San Pedro La Laguna route but some do. With private transport she could make it to Panajachel in about 3 hours, plenty of time to cross. You can arrange share shuttles in advance but the last one with a hope of reaching Panajachel in time to cross before dark (around 6pm) leaves the airport at 1pm, too early for her.
